Position: Junior Technical Office Engineer | Koysha Dam

Webuild is hiring a young new graduate to include as a Junior Technical Office Engineer for its Koysha Dam project in Ethiopia.

The Koysha hydroelectric project, located in the south-west area of the country, will be the fourth plant of a cascade dam system on the Omo River, following the plants of Gilgel Gibe I, Gilgel GIbe II, and the Gibe III hydroelectric project.

This new important work will allow Ethiopia, even thanks to the GIBE III hydroelectric plant and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile, to become a leader in energy production in the African scenario.

Main activities

  • Preparing method statements, notes, and technical support documents, for site activities;
  • Critically reviewing all design documentation (construction drawings, technical notes, calculation reports, and quantity calculations);
  • Preparing calculations and structural reports for temporary works (scaffolding, foundations of conveyor belts, etc.)
  • Dynamic interface with all technical services of the Technical Department;
  • Coordination and support with the rest of the departments engaged in the various construction site activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering Hydraulic or Structural curriculum;
  • Willingness to move to Ethiopia at the construction site base camp;
  • A short previous experience in Engineering firms is a plus;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and proficiency in AutoCAD;
  • Registration to the Engineer Registry with a valid license to practice;
  • Good Italian and English knowledge;

The figure, in addition to the tasks inherent to the RSPP, supports the HSE Manager in the implementation of the Safety Management System (SGS) of the contract by contractual requirements and company standards.

In particular:

  • Collaborate in the process of identifying OHS hazards, assessing risks, and defining prevention and protection measures associated with activities/plants / processes;
  • Identify training needs in the field of workplace safety, based on the results of the risk assessment process, contractual requirements, and local legislation, propose information and training programs for workers;
  • Collaborates in the drafting of contract documentation, in particular, operational control procedures;
  • Ensure systematic verification of the adequacy of the project SGS and monitor its effective implementation through inspections and audits;
  • Participate in incident investigation, analysis, identification of causes and ACs, monitoring their implementation, and evaluating their effectiveness. Draft related reports and Lessons Learned.
  • Monitor HSE performance of the project, and collaborate in the preparation of HSE reporting and documentation;
  • As far as it is concerned, provide support to the Procurement Department during the request for quotation phases for subcontracts, evaluating the suitability of the related SGS for contractual and company requirements.

Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience in the role
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Construction experience preferred
  • In possession of the qualification of Head of the Prevention and Protection Service (RSPP) – Macrosector 3 Construction;
  • Internal auditor qualification 45001 (also OHSAS 18001);
  • Experience in dams/hydroelectric projects.
  • Good knowledge of systems, machinery, and prevention devices
  • Knowledge of risk analysis and assessment techniques
  • Good knowledge of the main IT packages, Word and Excel in particular
  • Thorough knowledge of English is required.

The profile is completed by a strong aptitude for interpersonal relationships and teamwork, results orientation, and flexibility.
