MWECS Profile 

Mathiwos Wondu-YeEthiopia Cancer Society/MWECS/ is a local civil society organization established in 2004 and working on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and their risk factors. MWECS is collaboratively working with Ministry of Health (MoH) and Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) to curtail the growing NCDs burden in Ethiopia. Specific Duties and Responsibilities of Psychosocial Support Center Head/ Coordinator

 

  • Plan, manage and coordinate the overall NCDs, Women, Lung and pediatric cancer patients treatment, care and support activities by the center.
  • Register; follow up of patients’ appointments checkups and admission and referral linkage in contact with Referring Hospitals at different regions across the country.
  • Regularly supervise follow the treatment progress of the patients, check for vital signs of the patients and follow up emergency conditions.
  • Regularly document the patients’ data and properly file documentation both at Psychosocial Center and BLH.
  • Plan and deliver periodic entertainment, kids education, IGA, psychosocial counseling (individual and group counseling), spiritual care programs and meal service for patients and care givers staying at the hospital in collaboration with partners.
  • Establish dedicated child friendly spaces in the psychosocial support center. Make the facility patient friendly for psychosocial support. Ready to adopt experiences from equivalent facilities and implement.
  • Manage procurement /payments of medications, food, transport, lab requests and additional medical investigations /diagnosis of the target beneficiaries.
  • Keeping and safeguarding all store items with the policy and procedure of MWECS and makes sure the available resources and supplies are efficiently and effectively utilized.
  • Regularly monitor, personal hygiene, sanitation (infection prevention) of the center, personal hygiene of patients and caregivers and waste disposal mechanism of the center etc.
  • Regularly monitor the nutritional status of clients and make corrective measures in consultation with nutritionist.
  • Closely work with the Program and Operations teams for the smooth implementation of activities.
  • Involve MWECS volunteers and members in implementation activities related to the patients and treatment supporters’ care and support.
  • Develop monthly action plan for the care delivery.
  • Monitor, collect and document patients data; and prepare timely complied
  • Generate case stories, success stories, social media engagement captions, and audiovisual documentation to provide for website and social media.
  • Plan, facilitate and deliver events to improve community engagement and resource mobilization.
  • Performs any other tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Any additional task may be assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.

 

Salary: As per the project scale and with some level of negotiation. It will also include monthly transport and telephone allowance.

 

Term of employment: Project Duration Contract with possible project extension timelines and two months of probationary period

About You

Qualification and Experience Requirements

 

  • BSC in Clinical Nursing with MPH / MA in Clinical/ Medical ,Social Work
  • More than 3 years of experience in psychosocial centers.
  • Management experiences  in staff management and patients’ management in clinical set up for NCDs( particularly Cancer) is a plus.
  • In addition, competencies in resource mobilization and psychosocial support  will be advantageous to be considered for this post.

 

Additional Skills and competencies

 

  • Behavioral competencies  including problem solving, team working, innovation etc.
  • Able to explain, communicate and present complex technical concepts to clients and business partners.
  • Compassionate for patient care.
  • Ready to engage off work hours and on weekends if required.
