Mathiwos Wondu-YeEthiopia Cancer Society/MWECS/ is a local civil society organization established in 2004 and working on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and their risk factors. MWECS is collaboratively working with Ministry of Health (MoH) and Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) to curtail the growing NCDs burden in Ethiopia. Project Overview
Mathiwos Wondu-YeEthiopia Cancer Society implementing a new project entitled “International Early Lung Cancer Action Program (I-ELCAP) supported Project” funded by BMSF. The project aims at improving the lung cancer screening in two university hospitals in Ethiopia (Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH), and St Paul’s Hospital Millenium Medical College (SPHMMC) – with possibility to extend to one additional site).
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates with Principal Investigator and school, department, and MWECS team to help ensure that the IELCAP research and related activities are performed in accordance with required regulations and procedures.
- Assists the PI in development of materials and tools necessary to appropriately train individuals involved in the conduct of the study around issues related to (but not limited to) protocol requirements, schedule of visits, execution of research plan. Maintains documentation of training.
- Assists Principal Investigator to assure that all key personnel or persons ‘engaged’ in the research project have met training requirements.
- Assist in the recruitment, training and supervision of research staff.
- Collaborates with PI’s and institutions in preparation of any modifications to the scientific protocol and to respond to any new findings and implement approved recommendations.
- Reviews and comprehends the protocol. Collaborates with the PI to prepare IRB/HRPO and any other regulatory submission documents as required by the protocol. And prepares other study materials as requested by the PI.
- Establishes and organizes study files, including but not limited to, study specific source documentation and other materials.
- Attends investigator meetings as required or requested by the PI.
- Reviews and develops a familiarity with the contract or award terms and conditions.
- Coordinates multiple data collection efforts for one or more research projects which may include other collaborating agencies or institutions. Assures timely completion of the different Forms.
- Consult with co-investigators on appropriate management of participant problems and concerns.
- Develop and manage interim reports for principal investigators, sponsors and institutional review board to ensure that each project is moving toward timely completion.
- Liaison between the project team and funding agencies or significant parties.
- Ensure that projects are executed successfully and completed within time frames to meet research objectives.
- Write and edit technical reports and manuscripts for publication or presentation.
- Maintains study timelines, adequate inventory of study supplies.
- Works with the PI to manage the day-to-day activities of the study including problem solving, communication and protocol management.
- Lead the data collectors and the care coordination between departments and maintains continuity of care.
- Performs any additional deliverable assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- Any additional task may be assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.
Salary: As per the project scale and with some level of negotiation. It will also include monthly transport and telephone allowance.
Term of employment: Project Duration Contract with possible project extension timelines and two months of probationary period.
Duty station: Addis Ababa with Frequent Travel to TASH and SPHMMC.
Staff management: Coordinate the research team at the TASH & SPHMMC
Reports to : Program Director
Duty station : Addis Ababa with possibilities to travel to sites.

About You
Position Requirements.
- Time commitment: 100% level effort for the project.
- Number required: One.
- Education Requirement: Master’s Degree in Public Health or related fields with at least four years of related work experience in related fields.
- Experience: Relevant qualifications, skills, and experience in the required field of study
- With at least 4 years of clinical research experience on NCDs research.
- Familiarity with human subjects’ research regulations and guidelines.
- Excellent work ethic and self-motivation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage relationships and interact with a wide range of researchers and clinicians.
- Extensive collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Fluent in English.
